I've got babies

Went down yesterday morning and there was a little doe sitting there. Later I went down to make sure it was eating and there was another one there and one still in the sack. Broke open the sack and shook out the baby (goat slime all over)and started that one nursing. Triplets...two boys and a girl.

I sprayed Iodine on the belly buttons and got some mist in my eyes. Called Poison Control and he suggested getting them checked (they were fine but the doctor got a chuckle from it) When I was trying to Iodine one baby, he moved and slapped my cheek with a cold, wet foot. I blew dry them since it was cold but no one warned me that hot, newborn baby goats STINKS!!

Two look like Boers but have white streaks in their ears. The other one is brown with a black stripe going down half of his back with a brown stipe continuing on a black patch. Really interesting looking. I'll have to get a picture.

I had to tape the two Boers ears since they folded back and I put a strip of tape on the brown just so he didn't feel different.

I go down with a bottle just in case they're not getting enough to eat. So far, she seems to be able to take care of all three since I was only able to get them to take 4 oz between them all.

I called a 4H club and they have a meeting on Friday so I'm expecting to sell them, hopefully before I have to anything in a way of expense for them (like dehorning and feeding them for 6 months) Also, a woman called that talked to the person I registered the Scrapy project with. She wants a goat for her granddaughter for 4H. The breeder who sold the does to me said that she never had trouble selling her does. I believe her now. The other one is due later this month. And the 4H leader was excited that I also had a yearling for sale. I'm not sure if I'll suffer for not having them registered.

Ah babies! Spring and little ones. How wonderful. Congrats!!!

(Don't know if this would help, but we put iodine in film cannisters (35 mm) and dip the remaining umbilical cord right into it. Saturates the whole thing. Guess one runs the risk of tipping the little can over, but you wouldn't have overspray problems. I just had Mr. S. hold our lambs up, and I'd do the dunking). Did I already post this? I remember writing this to Kim. Sorry if it's redundant.

Hope these little ones are hale and hearty and bring you much joy (and $$)! Good luck.

Happy birthday to your new "kids", Dee!!! Nuthin' cuter than baby goats...although kittens and puppies run a close second :-)!
