This kid is good, very good. But I dont think it is a good idea to give him the #10 jersey. That is a big expectation on the shoulders of the young man. Great players like Johan Cruyff, Clarence Seedorf and Dennis Bergkamp wore the great #10 shirt of Ajax and I think Pienaar should earn the right to wear this jersey. It should go to Rafael van der Vaart as he has proven himself as a true superstar. ZLATAN IS GOD IN SARAJEVO!!!!!!!!

A few words in the Pienaar thread...

Steven played as a right winger against feyenerd, which is a somewhat unlikely position for him. But he was my personal 'Man Of The Match'. What a brilliant performance by this little guy. Not only did he make Tomasz Rzasa look like an idiot, but he also moved to the centre a lot, assisting Jari Litmanen with the things the Finn is not good at: pace, individual rushes. And he gave numerous thru-passes. His assist for Jari's 0-2 was simply brilliant.

Great game, Steven.

How do you fill about Jomo Sono for not giving you a run in the World Cup 2002 in Korea/Japan. Do you think he was having favourite players and overlooked you.

Also, Shakes Mashaba has been appointed new Bafana Bafana coach, do you think, can he handle this hot seat. Who do you think can be the coach of S.A. An International coach or Local coach.

Fortunately (given that the 1st half was shit) I only got to watch the second half of last night's game versus Barcelona. It appeared to me that Pienaar was the weakest link for Ajax on the field.... his passes were poor and his physique was obviously very weak. Maybe Barcelona is too big of an opponenet for Steven... or maybe he was just not in form..... whatever it is.... its worth mentioning because the position he is covering in the squad will be deadly during the season and the Cl if he f*&^s up.

This kid is the new 'des wunderkind' of South african football. Expect everyone to forget Quinton Fortune and jump on the band wagon of the real deal Steven Pienaar. Packs a right foot rocket! Look for this gem at the World Cup for South Afrika. Oleh, Oleh, Oleh!

Things are going fast for Steven Pienaar: he made in debut in the Ajax starting line-up on 24 February, was in the starting line-up each time since that game and scored his first goal against De Graafschap, on 10 March.

Today, Ajax Netwerk reports, that he was invited by national coach Jomo Sono to join 'Bafana Bafana' for the first time: the South- African national team, for a string of friendly games against Georgia, Saudi Arabia and Italy.

Ajax contracter Aaron Mokoena (loaned out to Germinal Beerschot Antwerp), former Ajacied Benni McCarthy and Ajax Cape Town youngsters Calvin Marlin and Brett Evans are also in the squad.
