Been to a Doctors or Hospital lately?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Current News - Homefront Preparations : One Thread

I had to go to the Dr office on thurs. and I am a "new patient" as we are pretty healthly..and our Dr' for the last 18 yrs. moved to Hawaii.

anyway I have to go back on Monday, and they gave me one of those "new patient" papers to fill out....Anybody have to do this lately???

After you give them your Insurance infor, and Ao-pay..they want a credit card # and it says...we resever the right to charge this CC for the full amt in the event the balance is past due for120 days from last billing.

then they want another CC number..I called and said I am sorry, what does one do if you don;t use Plastic..I go all kinds of remarks..and I was gettingjust as aggrevatied....bottom line, if you expect to be seen of have a dr. look at you...you are screwed unles you furnish plastic.

we do not use plastic..but we have 2 for JUST IN CASE things.. I think this sucks. (we only gave them one CC .) Is this legal?

this summer, we were going to change hospital insurance...Dan had to give blood, pee and they did a gazillion tests..we were turned down because...are you ready for this....his GooD cholouteral(sp) was 3 pts higher that the norm... it's no wonder people wait so long for help or to go to the hospital..we pay over 400.00, no gyn,no eye glassess, no frills...just major meds...and we still have to pay 3500.00 per each of us then 80/20. this is rediculaous.

how are the elderly doing it????

I don't have any insurance. If I really need to see a doctor, I go to a free-standing "urgent care" clinic, where I must pay in cash or write a check at the time I'm seen. The general cost is $55 - $130 (depending on whom I see and the tests), so I must be very ill to go. I've gone once in the last two years when I had a double ear infection, bad cough, and trouble breathing. Wish I had gone in sooner. The antibotics made me feel 100% better in 48 hours.

Routine check ups? I go to the free health seminars at the colleges to have my blood pressure checked, etc. They do charge for a few tests (diabetes), but the costs are $5 - $7.

I spend a fair amont of time practicingng prevention: very little ladder work (no roofs!), no rollerblading. Biking only on wide open trails with safety gear, no driving after 8 pm (except in emergencies), no left turns at rush hour (too many drivers run the lights here), eat well, exercise, get enough sleep, drink plenty of water, and avoid sick people.

I don't foresee that I'll be getting any insurance until I'm 65, assuming that the gov't holds together that long.

You might want to check out Golden Rule Ins., you can get quotes on the internet from them ...........................JAY

Even they want $380/mo, Jay, But thanks. I put between $250 - $325 each mouth into savings, and when I get more built up, I'll invest it in something safe that I can liquify quickly if I have to pay for anything major. I'm 43 with a family history of breast cancer. That's what's scaring the insurers. I foolishly filled out a form honestly when my mom died, and that got into some databases. Damn! ):

So, what are you doing here?

yea, Meemer, I am like you, but this time it is major medical, something I can't take care of myself...hernia at least 3 in an old 14 inch scar. been living with it for many years, guess it finally caught up ith me. it is high up in the stomach, and sitting is painfull...and when I eat, I TEND TO NEED A "BUCKET" IN CASE IT DOESN'T STAY DOWN. and I used to be able to push it in..but even that is too painful.

with my history of surguries, we HAVE to have insurance to protect us. we are basically healthy, when we need help, it is usually BIG time!

Too Scary!

Maybe this time around they'll fix it right so you won't have these problems.
