Hi, I was wondering if anyone goes by the farmers almenac for planting gardens. I get tired of playing guessing games with our weird weather. How much help does it give in knowing when to plant? Susan

I think The Old Farmer's Almanac is very good at advising you when to plant. It will tell you the first date for your exact area that should be past the danger of frost but that will still give you enough time to grow the crop. They also have some tables for people who plant by the moon. Very dependable. You can find them at a lot of bookstores or "Home Depot" type stores (also WalMart) but if you can't find The Old Farmer's Almanac go to their website at www.almanac.com and you can order one. ($4.95)

Go to your nearest National Weather service office and request climatological information for your area. It should give you the average date of last frost. Keep in mind you have a 50 percent chance of frost on that date with decreasing possible frosts thereafter. Farmers Almanac uses the same data with a little voodoo added.
