Hello Susan,

My wife makes lye soap and it seems not to hurt our garden.

Sincerely,

Ernest

Lye soap is enviromentally safe, I do the same thing, dump into the garden. I use lye soap to scrub my floors and dump the bucket into the herb garden... There are lots of recipes for both in the archives Happy scrubbin'......Kristean

I have been wondering about this for a long time. The only thing I have come up with is that over time soapy water will raise the salinity of the soil. I'll look for the site addy and try to post it.

I'd still like to use it--in some manure tea recipes I have you ADD dishwashing liquid as a main ingredient to promote growth!
