How do you use Wheat Grass?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Cooking & Crafts : One Thread

I was at the grocery store and in the produce dept. they are selling 4 inch pots of "wheat grass". I assume it is for eating. How is this used and for what purposes? Do you juice with it or eat it raw? Could it be grown at home? Thank you for any info. Marie

l throw wheat to the birds in the winter and usually have a crop under trees. l also grow it in pots. the juice contains enzymes for digestion - the leaf itself, past the sprout stage is indigestable. you could get fancy and juice it, I guess. l just break off a leaf, chew, swallow the juice and spit out the 'cud'. the younger plants are the sweetest.

juicing it is a good thing, but difficult to do unless you have a good juicer. It's supposed to help "detoxify" the air, and I have heard it recommended for people that use micrwaves. Supposed to help absorb the radiation? Also cats eat it.

I know some people juice it, I just grow it for my cats. I didn't know it was suppose to detoxify the air-thats interesting-I'm looking for information about using plants to clean the air.

When my aunt was having chemotherapy for ovarian cancer, she tried juicing wheat grass to strengthen her immune system. She said it smelled like cows breath and could never bring herself to drink it! Mona Lea

Wheat Grass is popular in San Francisco. Juice stores juice it right in front of the customer. It is supposed to detoxify the body, and provides a complete daily dose of vitamins for the body. It must be consumed within 10 mins otherwise it loses its effect. At least this is the claim.
