How do I survive abuse when aurthorities put blaim on me

greenspun.com : LUSENET : domestic violence : One Thread

My wife attacked me about 3 weeks ago. I ran out of the house and called the police. They showed up( 4 of them) and I got arrested. She claimed that I hit her. I had marks and sratches on my back from when she was chasing me. She was also given a ticket. While I was in jail that day she filed a protection order. When I got out that night I couldn't go home Or get my belongings. I couldn't see my kids for that 2 weeks. My life was turned upside down. She brags to me that she pulled it off. We are now getting a divorce. How do I stay out of jail and keep this from hurting my chances of having my kids. This had been going on for a year.

Be very careful. Do not use a family member(from yours or hers) to exchange the kids. Do it at the police station. If she makes one false report against you with the restraining order, get a harrassement order against her. Be sure to build your relationship with your children when you see them. Don't ask about her life and don't tell about yours. Seek counseling and find a lawyer who you think believes you. Unfortunately there is little help for men in this area. This happened to my boyfriend. There are many of organizations for men and mens rights on the net, but I found NONE of them return phone calls. Be careful, stay one step ahead and pay attention to everything involved in your divorce and restraining order. Seems that violating a restraining order in the U.S. is a serious crime and they will jail you, EVEN IF YOU DIDN'T BREAK THE RESTRAINING ORDER AND SHE LIES TO SAY YOU DID. Just be very careful!
