Used logsplitter prices -- How much did you pay?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I'm in the market for a used logsplitter and if you've bought one fairly recently I'd like to know what you paid for it so I'll have some general idea of a real-world price range.

Along with the price, please include some description of the unit, such as whether it's trailerable, PTO or engine, engine HP, cylinder size, pump type and GPM, whether it's both horizontal/vertical and brand name or homemade.

Thanks.

Hank, My father in law bought a log splitter last winter at a used implement business for $75.00. We had been looking for one for several years (used and could never find one under $700.00. The one he bought works off of a PTO on a tractor. The tractor hydralics raises and lowers it so it's always the right height. A lever on the tractor makes it split. Works better with two people as someone needs to be on or beside the tractor. The good thing is he sold it to us this winter, for what he paid for it, and we have been using it this year. In form store this year I have noticed kits where you can build your own. If I remember right without motor the cost was around $200.00. Hope this helps some. keep looking bargains are out there. Linda

I sold one a while back for $600. Looked new(repainted, new hitch, etc), sold 1st day I advertised so I'm guessing that was a decent price. Towable horizontal, 5hp b&s I bought new and put on it, had a few seasons use after that, 2 stage 16gpm I believe, 25 ton ram, 4" cylinder. No name kit type I'm guessing since there wasn't any maker i.d. on it, I bought it used, not running($100). It had no problem splitting oak and locust, big ones had to flip over and run through a second time.

My husband was doing some remodeling at a man's home last fall when I went over there and told him I was going to go ahead and buy the new Ashley wood heater we had been planning to buy.

Later that week the man GAVE a wonderful electric log splitter to us FOR FREE! It's in great condition! I think it would have cost aobut $600 new!
