My favorite WWII vet passed away last evening

Major Richard A. Durham. 5/23/11 - 5/24/02.

Very peaceful, at home, and expected, although perhaps not so soon.

For all the time I had spent saying good bye to him over the last several years, I'm surprised at how painful it is anyway. Mom has been in a nursing home for the last two months, they never got to see each other again.

Oh, Brooks, I'm so sorry. I know you weren't quite ready. We'll all be thinking of you.

Love,

He must have known that gardening season was about to start. This is the only way he could be outside with me.

Nah. He always was outside with you--you just didn't notice he was there.

My sympathies for your loss, Brooks.

You can lean on my shoulder if you feel the need.

Maybe you can plant something special for him this year?

I'm sorry, Brooks. And understand how surprising the pain is.

Brooks,

I am sorry for your loss. Words simply cannot express the loss of a parent. Please know that he, as well as we, are holding you in our arms.

Brooks, I'm terribly sorry. The death of a parent is a terrible blow, regardless of the circumstances.

Oh Brooks, so sorry. No, we are never ready. The pain of losing a parent never really goes away, but time does dull it. hugs and prayers for you from me.
