More ice!!!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Country Families : One Thread

Second ice storm in two days (or just one with a pause in the middle?) Our barnlot is an ice rink with several inches of snow. Lots slide-offs and line down here and in surrounding counties. Things are supposed to begin looking up by tomorrow, though.

Good things is, the chickens came (Australorp, Buffies and Rhode Island Reds) and are doing fine in boxes in the dining room by the wood stove.

Gooseberry cobbler baking; the stove burning nicely and no wind to speak of, what more could I ask?

Y'all have a good day. Those of you with flooding (Cindy?) what's happening now?

The sidewalks are covered with ice and are expecting more freezing rain this morning and early afternoon. The temp is a little warmer today. Well sort of the wind isn't blowing as bad so maybe it just feels that way. The street flooding thankfully went down before it was able to freeze. The kids had a good time "ice walking" this morning. Marques fell on his behind and laughed himself silly.

Ic here also. I had to let my car run for half an hour so I could begin to chip the ice off of the windows. It took us about 15 minutes to get into the car.(my garage is full of dry wood and some great auction finds) I am ready for spring but the forcast for today is 4" more snow. Our woodstove is rolling also so we are warm and well fed. Enjoy your day!

I promise I won't complain any more about the rain!!! I believe I'd rather have that than ice!

Spent about 1hr chipping the truck out of the ice so I could go to work. About 1/4 inch of ice on everything. 50 miles south of home there was little to no ice.

Rosalie,

Tell us about your gooseberries! I remember my gramma having gooseberries in the yard and haven't tasted them in years. Do you have pink ones? Do they grow well in your area?

Gooseberries. These grow very well here. I'm told we should not have them near apples and we do but actually a good piece away on the other side of the garden. They are green, which a lot of people like for pies, and sour, then turn pink and sweeter. We use them pink and ripe. They make really good jam and pies and cobblers, etc. I don't have a name for the type because they were transplants many years ago from a friend. Ours are dying out, though, so my daughter is bringing us new starts in a month or so.

LOL...My dog came in this morning frozen.. The freezing rain had coated her fur and I couldnt do anything but let her thaw. Now I have a big wet spot in my living room floor... LOL... oh well, not like I can do anything else.. but dry the carpet.... Maybe ill make a cherry pie and some homeade bread, ...yum

Lots of ice and snow here too. I once again flew off the back porch. I'm OK, just a little bruised and sore.
