Any Southeastern Animal Swap Meets in KY,TN,MO,AR,?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Does anyone know of any animal swap meets/shows in the South East USA. We live in southern KY now and would like to find shows within a 5 hr. drive of the Nashville,Tn area. When we lived in WI there was alot of nice animal sales/shows where you could buy many varieties of poultry, goats, sheep & calves from individuals. We don't want to buy from the livestock barns; just a personal choice, and being fairly new down here we don't know where they might be held. Thanks, Kathy

Shepherdsville, Ky on Saturday mornings. And Litchfield, Ky on Wednesdays. Swap meet style, chickens, turkeys, piegons, peacocks, geese, ducks, pheasants, rabbits etc. Goats must go thru auction at 1:00 at Shepherdsville. Same with Litchfield. You could wait outside the barns early, and buy them off the trucks before they unload them. What are you looking for?

I know of a few, however, they mainly pertain to goats. The ultimate show in KY and the east is the North American Livestock Expo held every Nov in Louisville, KY, its called NAILE, you can access the website by typing in either name. It encompasses all livestock. Then there sre the st fairs. What specifically are you interested in? All livestock?

London, KY from mid-morning on Tuesday. Livestock auction starts at noon ... goats, cattle, sometimes a few horses go through the auction. There is a "swap meet" in the lot that starts filling up sometime mid-morning ... chickens, rabbits, dogs ... harness and a little of everything else as well.

There is one in Waterloo,Ill.(618)939-6809.It was pretty good when we went. There is also one in Eldon,Mo but I do not have any particulars. The auction barn in Owensville, Mo has a small animal auction every 2nd and 4th Saturday from 2PM til ?.There is one in Versailles,Mo.I believe the first weekend of June and October.I too have not been there for a long time but it was wonderful. The thing is when you start to accumulate animals you have to stay home and take care of them. Good luck, Terry

I think so Barb. That huge flea market off the side of I-65? I always wanted to go there. Shepherdsville is just south of Louisville. The flea market is at the Bullit County Stockyards. It's off that service road on the west side of I-65. The animal people get there very early on Saturday, like 5:30, 6:00, so we can get a spot with all the other animal people in the back right corner.

If you can get to Macon, Missouri, go to Lolli Brothers Livestock Market. It's a HUGE four-day event (April 10-13)that sells just about everything. For this upcoming sale, they've listed on the sale flyer reptiles, small caged animals (pet shop), birds, kangaroos, ratites, pigs, primates on Wednesday; buffalo, yak, exotic cattle, domestic sheep, goats, and hogs on Thursday; deer, reindeer, giraffes, zebras, camels, antelope, big horn sheep on Friday; and miniature donkeys and horses on Saturday. Plus they have cages and chickens and rabbits and taxidermy stuff.

Terry, do you by chance know how I could get more information on this? Thanks!

Hi Joan,

I do know of another great livestock show other than NAILE, and dag, it was just on the tip of my tongue, well, fingers. It held every may in TN, its called something like the Small Exotic Livestock show or something like that. I know they also ahve a website too. They send me a application to enter every yr, I'll jot anote to post if you are interested. Its a really nice show from the sounds of it. You can also access the state fairs and county fairs in thsoe states by going to the American Dairy Goat Association, www.adga.org They ahve acomplete listing of all the shows including the st fairs and county fairs in addition to the goat shows. So maybe that may give you some ideas too. If I think of any more I'll post
