electrical/ lighting question

greenspun.com : LUSENET : CB550 : One Thread

hi again, i also had to take the signals and tail light unit off. they weren't working properly, and i wanted a stripped down look, cheap speed, but when i got the new tail light it only had two wires(the oem part has three connected to it) and the signals don't blink only get brighter. i ain't no 'lectritian. but the bike won't move(12" of snow) to go to a shop. i have the diagram for my model, but don't really under stand it. if some one could give me a good place to start in troubleshooting this i'd appreciate it.

HI JUST BEEN FLICKING THROUGH THE QUESTIONS AND SAW YOURS DID YOU GET THE TAIL LIGHT AND INDICATORS SORTED? AS A ROUGH GUIDE THE WIRING ON THE TAIL LAMP SHOULD BE 3 WIRES AS THE OLD ONE WAS.THE WIRING SHOULD GO AS FOLLOWS, ONE TO THE TAIL LIGHT ELEMENT ONE TO THE BRAKE LIGHT ELEMENT AND THE MISSING ONE WOULD HAVE PROBABLY HAVE BEEN THE EARTH TO GO TO ANY EARTHING POINT.SAME FOR THE INDICATORS, I RECENTLY BOUGHT NEW UNITS BUT I STILL HAD TO ADD A SEPERATE EARTH TO EACH UNIT AS WITHOUT IT THE INDICATORS WOULD JUST ILLUMINATE AND NOT FLASH. I ALSO HAD TO CHANGE ALL THE LAMPS AS THE UNITS SUPPLIED WERE FITTED WITH 6 VOLT LAMPS AND THE WATTAGE WAS NOT COMPATABLE TO MAKE THE FLASHER UNIT FLASH. HOPE SOME OF THIS HELPS. GEORDIE T.
