Berms

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Beyond the Sidewalks : One Thread

I know I am completely out of my mind now...I had 15 yards of screened topsoil delivered this morning. What was I thinking? Do you realize how much soil that is?! I have a plan for most of it, but I was thinking it might be nice (now that I have so much!) to berm some of it up (right where it was unloaded...) and plant on the berm.

Any of you folks planted on berms? Could you share your experiences? The area I'm thinking of gets sun from mid-morning until mid-afternoon. It faces south but is shaded by the woods across the road, as well as by an Atlas Cedar in our yard (40') in the a.m.; and shaded by by the house in the p.m. (and shaded by the earth's shadow at night!).

btw, I want to plant a fairy garden under the cedar, as we have it limbed up enough now that something other than just moss can survive (as well as be seen). Any thoughts on that? Trennie?

Thanks for your input.

What's a fairy garden?

I went to school with a guy that had mushrooms in his "fairy garden". He would eat the shrooms and see the fairies :>)

I meant a garden to attract fairies! Like with foxglove and other plants that are, um, enchanted.

Around here some folks see fairies (amongst other things) in their "pot" gardens :-)!!

Wooly thyme is another plant that the fairies are supposed to like. You should like it too Sheepish. Get it...wooly, sheepish...har har har! :)

sheepish, I have been wanting to do a "fairy garden" also. I saw one on a garden tour last year that was so neat. They had even built a tiny little "cabin" out of twigs etc. with a little path bordered by tiny pebbles. My granddaughter would go wild over it.
