First the seeds.... now your barnyard critters

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Country Families : One Thread

Today my uncle called, to let me know he was getting fined $200 dollars for not having his chickens, ducks, and goats ect..immunized... YUP thats right.. here in good old Morgan county , Indiana, we must take our barn yard critters to the vet and get their shots, just like the dog or the cat.... Is this just where I am or is this other places... ps, this included his rabbits too....The inspector will be back next friday to see if he has the right documents, and if he dont..... well kiss that money good bye...

WHAT?????!!!!!!

I immunize my goats, but have never given my rabbits, ducks or poultry an immunization ever. (Never lost one to illness either in nearly 20 years of raising them.) I have NEVER heard of anyone being forced to immunize like this. If I did immunize, I would do it myself anyway, not go to the vet. Who could afford an office call for a flock of chickens and ducks anyway? Methinks perhaps that is the whole point, to force people to get rid of their livestock by making it impossible to afford to keep them. I hope you will put this info out on the internet to any and every group/forum with a livestock interest, and give us names, addresses, etc. I would like to see the responsible agencies bombarded with e-mail, letters and calls regarding this. Can you give us the information along with the actual wording requiring the immunizations?

Does he dress and sell them or something? Or have they had an outbreak of something? We lived, before moving here, in Morgan County, IN, and never had any such thing. What in the world? I'd surely be interested in the particulars of this strange business. Who are these inspectors? Are the county board of health or state people? My husband and I have been discussing this at length since you posted and really are very interested.
