Wool Crazy Quilt--how to clean it???

Today Hubby & I went to an auction----& I bought a large/ lovely, old crazy quilt & it is made out of wool & wool blends----

How do I clean it-----or do I need to????? Since it wasn't ours /I felt I needed to clean it somehow----I know the older woman it came from---& she was very clean----it is an older Quilt---

Help-- I need your advice?????? What do I need to do????

Sonda-I don't think I would wash it. I think what I would do is to get a vacumm cleaner with a hose attachment and put an old nylon stocking, or a few layers of cheesecloth over it and gently vaccum the quilt-the stocking will keep from pulling fragile stitches but (most) dust and dirt will go through. If you are worried about the possibilty of little critters in the wool, you can seal the quilt in a couple of plastic garbage bags for a couple of weeks and that should take care of that. Finally, I would give it a good airing out- you don't want to put it in direct sunshine, If you get a couple of good warm breezy days you can put it on a shaded ground or closeline- protected by a couple of olds sheets. I put up a clothes rack on my back porch for this-its out of direct sun-but catches the breeze.
