First off, how badly is it broken? You can make a splint with pvc as the cast if it is broken high enough on the leg where it would be held in the proper position by the pvc. You need to wrap it really well so there isn't rubbing on the leg. If it is badly broken I would certainly run a course of antibiotics tto keep out secondary infection. Also you can get some pain killer called banamine from the vet and that should help him to keep eating.

Myself, if it were a really bad break I would have the vet out. Best to you!!

When Keisha, as a kid, jumped down onto concrete and broke her leg, we wrapped it for the night in newspaper. The break was below the knee, and we were told to wrap to above the next joint. We then took her into the vet the next day, and he splinted it.

Hi Bettie, this will be a rough one. A broken ankle means a broken pastern. You will need the vet. Not because of today, I mean you can vet wrap the pastern back together, now splinting or pipe insulating or PVCing a pastern is going to be impossible due to the bend in it. It really needs a fiber glass cast put on it. Even then, a buck needs his legs as he grows larger and larger. I would set a canon bone on a non-showing buck, but I wouldn't tackle a pastern. Make sure the vet cuts windows in the cast for his dewclaws, if they are covered for 6 weeks they will slough. Vicki
