Good fortunes anyone?????

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Country Families : One Thread

I noticed that Gary from Indiana had posted about some free meals that he had recieved, and his post got me thinking.

Anyone had great fortunes, blessings or good will offered to them lately?

I will go first: My sister and her best friend's favorite band is Alison Kraus and Union Station. They played Indy last night, and tickets were $45, $35 & $25. Of course, the cheap seats were sold out, and we are much too frugal to spend 45 smackaroos on a two hour show. ($25 tickets are really, really pushing it anyway). We all decided to jump in the car, drive to the concert hall, and just "see about" getting tickets. After the three of us split a pizza at a local pizza joint, we walked over to the concert hall, and talked to a ticket broker (ticket scalper, as some call them) who was standing out on the street. While I was trying to work a deal with this broker, out of the blue, a man and wife walked up, and said "Here is two free tickets to the show, if you want to go that badly." I was just stunned!!!!! I was so taken aback, that I didn't even know what to say. Well, I thanked him profusely, and offered to pay for them, but they refused. Now I was set up on getting the two girls, who were thrilled, into the show, but assumed that I would be spending the next two hours in a coffee shop waiting for the show to let out. Just as I began to wonder about which coffee shop I would go to, a young gentleman, who had overheard our conversation, offered to sell me his extra seat for just $10!!!!!!!

It was a wonderful show, and an occasion that the three of us will probably never forget.

Talk about being blessed with good fortune!!!!

I have been very blessed. While I am making a fresh start in a new house I have been given lots of nice furniture. I got a washing machine yesterday from my best friend Heather, She has been such a blessing to me. she has been very supportive and a good friend.

My new brother in law hauled the washing machine over, cleaned it and hooked it up for me, he also helped fix my toilet, he has only been in the family less than a month and is already helping out.

While this is not a material blessing, it is one that is more precious to me than gold. My two youngest boys were both saved on Friday night. We had a living Lord's Supper at church to celebrate Good Friday, and after the Lord's Supper our pastor preached on the beauty of the Cross. I think this really convicted the boys that it was time, because they couldn't quit talking about it the whole way home. My husband and I sat down and talked through it with them and they both prayed to receive Christ. My oldest was saved 5 years ago, so now my whole family is saved. It is such a blessing and isn't God Awesome!!!

Oh my... I can't pick just one! "It is the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness." Lam.3:22,23. I'm with you Ivy, my first biggest and best blessing would be that my husband and children love, serve and obey God, another would be that our daughter wasn't hurt seriously in the car accident that she had, and that we got to see God work out Rom. 8:28 (all things work for the good...) and supply her with a better car. We do serve a wonderful Father.

This may not sound like much of a blessing, as my oldest daughter (married) was in an accident yesterday. The blessing is that no one was hurt!! After church Jen decided to make a quick trip to the store a few blocks away. Fortunately her dh and little daughter stayed home. Jen took the back road to avoid the heavy traffic, and was hit by an older lady who ran a stop sign. Probably totalled their car, but at least it wasn't brand new like the car the other lady was driving. Jen said she felt so bad for the older lady who was afraid to go home and tell her husband. We are so thankful it was only property that was damaged rather than people.

There is a man in our church who always has his ears open to any of our wants or needs. When my crockpot broke, I told the children NOT to say anything to him about it. Not very long afterwards, he brought me a brand new crockpot, an early birthday present from his sister. I asked him, "Who told you I needed one?" He said no one told him anything; it was all his sister's idea! Needless to say, I was thrilled--I use my crockpot a LOT.
