What can I do to find help for my Brother?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : domestic violence : One Thread

My brother was married in Jul 99, and his current wife filed for Dissolution on 1 Oct 01.

I need to find some help for him. His current wife is VERY COMBATIVE and Violent, she has possibly infected him with an STD (sexually transmitted Disease), which she has had and known about for over 20 years (and did NOT tell my brother before getting involved with him), she has assaulted him, had an affair -- her partner in this has threatened his life, been verbally/emotionally abusive to him, ... and on top of all that ...

He was recalled to Active Military Service on 1 Oct 01, and she has seized everything, including his clothes, personal property, etc. The only items he has now are military uniforms that he had to borrow money for to purchase (she emptied out his bank accounts totally).

When he came to visit me I was so upset and ashamed that I provided him clothes out of my teen-age son's closet.

NOW ... what can I do to get Michigan to file assault charges against her (he called for assistance, but did NOT get help). I know the date/time of the assault. I know when she emptied all the bank accounts, and have recovered receipts for her withdraws.

HIS attorney wont take action to recover anything. HIS attorney sent him a letter telling him that I should NOT "bother" the attorney with anything at all. UNFORTUNATELY, he is NOT able (because of Duty Requirements) to take care of all actions, and I am his financial manager.

Where can I call/fax/mail items to to obtain a Personal Protection Order for my brother? Where can I get some hlep in getting him into an Abuse Support Group?

PS -- The Assaults and her withdraws and the property she has seized is in Dowagiac, MI. PLEASE HELP ME HELP HIM.

THANKS for any help I can get. A Concerned SISTER and also a Military Retired Officer

Hi, concerned sis. Doesn't the military have any support systems for him? The local Social Services should have something if the miltary does not.

It also sounds like his attorney has forgotten that he/she works for your brother, not the other way around! I would be searching for a new attorney ASAP! For the amount that attorneys charge, excuse me, but they had better be working for MY intersts, not their own!! As far as I am concerned, an attorney is MY EMPLOYEE, and not my authority. Often, attorneys seem to think that they are doing YOU a favor. Excuse me again, but who is paying the bill? They work FOR me, and if they don't, I will hire someone who will! I wish you the best in this situation. It is SO hard to watch a loved one being taken advantage of.

Best wishes...Judy

Tried the Military -- Don't have much for the MALE Survivors of Spousal Abuse, and since I am at the Gulf of Mexico and his Home and Assets are near Lake Michigan, I, with TWO disabled Kids can NOT get there from here.

I would like to be able to try to get directly in touch with someone within the State of Michigan in particular to try to get at least his clothes out of her clutches. Have done what I can to stop her drawing against his finances -- that is now done. It is frustrating in the extreme for me ...

THANKS

He needs to go to the sheriffs office and have them escort him to the house to claim and retrieve his property.

He needs to cut all ties with this woman forever.
