How to search for a specific topic on the forum.

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Hello All! I just wanted to offer something I just discovered. Many of you may already know this, but I did not! If there is a specific topic that you want to find, I found that if you hit the "Ctrl" button and then the "f" button a search box comes up, you can then type in a specific word that relates to what you are searching for. For instance, I wanted to know something related to poultry, so I clicked on the poultry link provided and tried the search box...and it worked! I know I have been guilty of asking a question that has already been asked on the forum...not intenional!...SO anyhoo...if this helps anyone else, then I am a happy person today!!!

Hey thanks for the tip!! I didn't know that function was an option on the board( I'm not the most computer savvy person) :). I tried it and was so happy to see it works, now I won't have to page through 50+ subject lines to find posts on subjects that I want information on.. Have a great day and thanks again, Kathy

Helped me and I've been here for a while ... so be happy!

Also, that function works for all webpages. It's a function of the browser not the board itself.

You can also do a google search (www.google.com). You can search on a collection of words or a phrase there as well (say "forum search" or "search on the forum") - it will discard the common ones ("on" "the") and then kick it off.

You can also click on their "Advanced" link, then do a search on a particular site ("www.greenspun.com" will get you everything that's here, plus a few other Greenspun forums/fora as well).

For anyone else out there with webtv, all you have to do is click on the "find" key and you can find anything on the page you're on!!
