Attact Cat????

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I have an amusing [and short] story about my cat, he is of unknown age I guess over 6 years, he moved in with me about 5 years ago. He was just a stray, he looks to be a British Blue, much like a Russian Blue but with a rounder face, he was fixed and declawed before he moved in with me, he is a great mouser etc, but for many years showed very little affection to me, but about 4 years ago when I remarried he desided he liked my husband, and over time my hubby began to cater to him.

Well, yesterday hubby was playing with his dog, the dog was jumping and barking, altogether quite a comotion, and this cat ran up to the dog, slapping and hissing !!! , the dog backed away, we where all suprized and soothed the cat, a few minutes later hubby and dog where playing again and the cat comes after the dog again slapping , hissing, yowling and spitting, chases the dog into the next room !!!

Well, I took the cat to the bed room made peace and he layed down to nap, we are astonished, this dog that will go after anything else, with out hesitation, ran from this cat with no toenails.

Hubby says the cat was protecting his meal ticket.

Yes, the fight between cat and dog can often be unequal, and not always the way you'd think. Cat we had once wanted the WHOLE property, including the front yard. Got attacked by a passing German Shepherd once - had kept me company while I'd been cleaning up the front yard - cat retreated to a gatepost, lay there, dog came up barking in cat's face, cat reached down and took a firm hold of dog's nose with its claws buried deeply, sort of grinned and said "now what, buster?". Dog said "uh.uh.uhhhhh...., please mister cat, could you let go?". Cat grinned and did nothing more. After a while (say thirty seconds) dog said "Mr Cat SIR, I really respect you greatly, and I'd appreciate it enormously if you'd let me go and spread the word about what a respectable cat you are to the entire neighbourhood". Cat thought about that for a few seconds, then let the dog go, and shook the cramp out of it's claws. Dog evaporated. Funniest thing I've ever seen. I'd been ready to be half-murdered trying to rescue cat from an attacking dog, but I didn't need to do a thing. Maybe the fact that by the end I was standing there with rake swung back, ready to swing forward, had something to do with it. Really, I don't know whether they spread the word or not, but from that day on CAT never had a moment's trouble. He owned the front yard, and he'd lie there on top of the gatepost, passing the time of day with all passers-by, waiting for the kids to come home from school.

Don't know if anyone else heard this story but, it was on the radio the other day. A young girl 6 or 7 was grabbed by a stranger who pulled her into an out buildning and taped her mouth shut. He was trying to pull away her clothes when in the struggle he was attacked by the girls pet cat. The cat attacked violently enough to force the man to let go of the girl who ran away from him. Talk about a pets love and loyalty.
