Playing Around with Pizza Crust

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Country Families : One Thread

I have been playing with different recipes and this is the one that everyone agrees is the best so far!

4 tsp yeast

2 cups warm water

2 tsp sugar, brown sugar, or honey

2 tsp salt

4 TBS olive oil or melted butter

1/2 cup corn meal

2 cups whole wheat flour

2 1/2 cups unbleached white flour

Optional additions: 2 TBSP Italian Seasoning, 1 tsp garlic powder, or 1/4 cup parmesan cheese (can use any combination of these)

In a large bowl, mix everything except the corn meal and flours. Then add them and knead a little while. lightly oil a bowl and let rise until about double. This makes enough for 2 large pizzas or one pizza and one batch of breadsticks. The kids really love this recipe! It is tasty and fairly healthy too.

Melissa, next time you make your recipe, try substituting the Italian seasoning with herbes de province. It's very similar to the Italian seasoning, but without a couple herbs and the addition of fennel, sometimes anise, but most of all, lavender buds. It has the most wonderful flavor. I use it in pizza dough all the time now. This recipe sounds great, I'll have to try it! Thanks for sharing with us! Toni
