Will Iodine come out of clothing?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Country Families : One Thread

I have a question for you. Both of our does kidded this week. My husband helped me dip the hooves and cord in iodine. He got a couple of splashes on his good pants. Is there ANYTHING that will take iodine out of clothing? Thanks in advance for any help.

I don't honestly know if this will help you Marci, but I guess it wouldn't hurt to try. I've been experimenting oh how to get some stains out of my favorite apron, it's a heavy, white cotton. So far, I have found that a new product on the market called oxy-clean works pretty great. It can be used instead of bleach too. I sprayed the stains with simple green, put in a bucket of tepid water and oxy- clean for a couple days. It not only took out the old stains, it removed some rust stains I thought I was going to have to just live with. I probably sound like a commercial, but I'm not, I just believe in sharing what I've found to work. Good luck with those pants! Another, thought...it seems to me that you can, or used to be able to get iodine without the red dye in it.? Just an idea. Toni

I've read that you can soak it in milk and it will take out blood or iodine. Don't know from results though--never tried.

Marci,

During kidding season we get iodine on our clothes & the towels taht I use to clean up the newborns. I just rub a little laundry soap on the stain and throw them into the washer as usual. I use a warm wash and cold rinse. I've never had a problem. Knock Knock on wood.

When I was working for a Vet, we use to use peroxide. It got out blood and iodine. I hope it works for you.......
