If you are interested in one of these saints and want to find out more about him/her, please ask. Information is sometimes available on the Internet.

All you holy men and women, saints of God, pray for us.

Hi, John.

Is April 8, the feastday of the Annunciation of our Lord? I read on March 25, that you used the word " usually " as the day. I just saw on a calander that April 8 is the date. Does the different dates of Easter Sunday change the celebration date of the Annunciation?

Thanks, David S

To take some pressure from John: David, The Feast of the Annunciation of the Lord in part of the Christmas 'circle' of dates. It is transferred, however, when March 25 falls into the Holy Week; AFAIK it is then celebrated on the first Monday after the Easter Octave. (And over here, we did celebrate the Annunciation of the Lord yesterday.)

Pax et bonum,

Thanks, Oliver. You are right.

David S, here is what I wrote on the "March 25 -- today's saints" thread:
"Today, March 25, we members of the Catholic Church family usually celebrate the Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord by the angel Gabriel. (When the date falls within Holy Week, as in 2002, or during the Octave of Easter, it is transferred to Monday of the second week of Easter.)"

I could not mention it here on the page for April 8, because it will probably be many years before the feast accidentally falls on April 8 again. Though I can mention the Annunciation under its usual date (03/25), the Solemnities of the Resurrection, Ascension, and Pentecost are impossible for me to mention, because they can fall on several different dates!

God bless you.
John

Thanks, Oliver. I did not see your post to me, until tonight. Thanks, John, I appreciate the explanation. David S

Late in 2003 and early in 2004, Pope John Paul II beatified sixteen servants of God. The following one was assigned this calendar day for yearly commemoration.

Bl. August Czartoryski of Paris [Augusto] (Polish/Spanish exile born in France, son of a prince, disciple of St. John Bosco, Salesian priest in Italy, died at age 35 in 1893 [beatified 2004])
