Jennie Jerome invented the Manhattan Cocktail in 1874 in New York, what was her other contribution to the world?

Ah ah! Another one I know! I am on a roll. I will not give this one away since I got yesterdays, but it is a pretty facinating story about her. She sure is the "mother" of invention.

The story about the cocktail is pretty interesting. She was giving a banquet at the Manhattan Club in New York City and devised a new cocktail for the occassion. The banquet was given to honor of Samuel J. Tilden (who was the prosecutor the Boss Tweed Ring). He was running for president of the United States in 1876. He lost the election in an Electoral College controversy that was settled by a Senate committee in favor of Rutherford B. Hayes.

She did go on to produce something that many people say changed the world.

Although I may not know what she did invent, I figure it's safe to assume it wasn't A.A.! *BIG GRIN!* Toni in Wa.

I would not have known the answer to this except that I am now reading "Centennial" - and the author does a good job of covering this. By the way - what a book.
