Being a Macedonian I will answer this simply as the Persian elitists who ruled persia hated Alexander The Great,but came to terms and even sided with him.The ancient Greeks probably hated Alexander The Great even more because he was not greek and because he conquered the greek city-states and imposed imperial law over them.Modern day "greeks" have been lying to the world about Alexander The Great being greek since the beginning of the 20th century.They would even deny the new testament in which the apostle Paul came to Macedonia and then fled to greece.The distinctions are there for everyone.Us modern day Macedonians have to consistently tell the world that Macedonia was never greek.We are our own nation and always have been. Alexander The Great and persian emperor Darius came to amends and accepted each other as allys.

Many of the Persians are half Greek anyway, and they don't have cause to hate him now, after more than 2000 years. They probably hated him then, but the Greeks hated the Persians too, when they invaded during the Persian Wars.

Not all Persians despised Alexander there is an account that he had a Persian lover named Bagoas who came willingly to him. It was the fact that the Macedonians hated Persians NOT Alexander. They hated the way Alexander introduced Persians into his court and went around looking like a Persian. Alexander did all that was possible to unite the two kingdoms, even by having a mass wedding for 40 of his officers to Persian ladies and marrying one himself he even began to take lessons in Persian before his death...

Most Persians do. and they have a good reason! What he did wasn't wrong, (Persia invaded alot of countries too) but the WAY he did it was wrong. A Persian friend of mine said that ATG was very mad at his wife for burning the books of the Persepolis, and had her killed and dragged down the steps of the Persepolis. My friend also said Persians have a saying "not to worry, conquers come and eventually they become like us." Reference to a very proud and great people with enduring universal family values. The fact that Persia still exists today says something about how ATG added to the culture that still remains. My friend was right, and made me proud to know him.

I think ATG is a dick. I'm not persian but i've been reading about him and he sounds like the the biggest shit. Did you know he was told to think that be was better than other people when he was young. And did you know he also had a drinking problem which lead to the deaths of two people? That kinda rules out the good parts of him dont you think. Not to mention that he killed heaps of people just to take over land that wasnt going to be used by them anyway. Because he burned our libraries and castles, and burned our historic books which know lead to our ignorance of our past. By burning our historic books we are now left with the history which is written by other countries which is in-accurate and gives a bad impression of the ancient Persian empire.

Those who hate him often look at his negative aspects. I believe that the simple fact that he was able to conquer our empire is what sets him as a bad guy in the ideology of Persians. I at first hated him, but after I found out about how his good contributions to our people outweighed the bad contributions, I actually started to like him quite a bit.
