what are these black specks on my roosters' combs?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Freedom! self reliance : One Thread

My roosters have developed black specks on their combs. I haven't noticed them anywhere else on the body-I was wondering what they are and how to treat them? Thanks

It could be where they are pecking at each other. Again, see the www.poultryconnection.com ask at the poultry forum.

these black specks are probably chicken fleas. sprinkle the chicken with sevin dust. Sissy

Very likely scabs. Our Buff Orpington had a lovely comb until my daughter's rooster grew up. Both have ratty looking combs now.

My life revolves around chickens. The black spots are scabs of dried blood. end of story. you want to have pretty combs, keep the roosters separated or fill your freezer up.
