Hi, I have a portable Sharp DV-70tv DVD player. Its DVD coded for region 2 (Japan). I picked up a stack of VCDs in asia and half of them dont work. I was wondering if it because my DVD is not code free. Would my problems be solved if I were to make it code free?

Also, are VCDs coded?

I don't think the reason is related to the region code since it only affects the DVDs you put in, not VCDs. If you're still encounting such a problem, maybe it's because the lense in your DVD-Player is getting old.
