Information on Department of Justice statue

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Art Deco Society of Washington : One Thread

I'm a freelance journalist and am looking for responses to the cover up of the Spirit of Justice statue in the Department of Justice. And, does anyone know of good resources about the sculptor, Carl Paul Jennewein?

His papers seem to be, somewhat appropriately, in the Smithsonian.

Have you seen the web page? http://www.niquette.com/selections/artdeco/jennewein.htm

During his last years, CP Jennewein was Director of Brookgreen Gardens (located near Myrtle Beach, SC), the sculpture park founded by Anna Vaughn Hyatt Huntington and her husband. You might contact them (they have an online site).

Look at James Goode's Outdoor Sculpture in Washington, which has info on Jannewein and his Darlington Fountain (golden nymph & fawn in park outside Justice).

The Darlington statue is in Judiciary Square but not by the Department of Justice. It sits next to the old Superior Court of the District of Columbia and across from the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Try also the Library of Congress's site: http://www.loc.gov/bicentennial/propage/NY/ny-18_h_lowey5.html
