Today, April 16, we members of the Catholic Church family honor, in a special way, the following friends of God -- saints whose souls are now in heaven:

Bl. Archangelo Canetuli (Italian, Augustinian canon, d. 1513)
St. Benedict Joseph Labre ["Beggar of Perpetual Adoration"] (French, rejected by three religious orders, wandered Europe on pilgrimage, mystic, died in Rome at age 35 in 1783)
St. Bernadette Soubirous [baptized Marie Bernarde] (French, poor shepherdess, received visions of Mary as "Immaculate Conception" at Lourdes, member of Sisters of Nevers, died at age 35 in 1879 [canonized 1933][incorruptible])
Sts. Caius and Crementius (Spanish, martyred in 304)
Sts. Callistus, Charisius, and seven companions (Greek, martyred by drowning)
St. Contardo the Pilgrim of Este (Italian, nobleman, pilgrim to Compostela, died in Spain 1249)
St. Drogo of Sebourg (Belgian, penitential pilgrim, shepherd, hermit, died in France c. 1189)
Holy Martyrs of Zaragoza (Spanish, eighteen men and women martyred c. 304)

St. Fructuosus of Braga (Spanish, hermit, abbot, archbishop in Portugal, d. 665)
St. Herve of Tours (French, hermit, d. 1021)
Bl. Joachim Piccolomini of Siena (Italian, nobleman, Servite brother, d. 1305)
St. Lambert (Spanish, servant, martyred by his Moslem master c. 900)
St. Magnus of Orkney (Norwegian, earl, frequent visitor to Ireland and Scotland, martyred in 1116)
St. Paternus of Llanabarn Fawr (French, abbot in Wales, 5th century)
St. Paternus of Avranches (French, hermit, bishop, c. 574)
St. Turibius of Astorga (Spanish, bishop, c. 460)
St. Turibius of Palencia (Spanish, abbot, c. 528)
St. Vaise (French, imprisoned for giving his rich family's property to poor, martyred c. 500)
Bl. William Gnoffi [Guglielmo] (Italian, hermit, c. 1317)
