Preparedness Fair in Mesquite, TX

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I am wondering if there are any "countrysiders" or other participants in this forum planning on going to the preparedness fair in Mesquite, TX this coming weekend...April 20&21? I have only attended one in my entire life...back in 1999 when Y2K was looming....I live somewhat near to Mesquite and plan to go there. The ads sound like it will be quite interesting....lots and speakers and vendors. It probably has something for everyone. I might learn something new and useful there.

I am really interested in a "Big Berke" water filter. I have heard they are the best on the market. I will get to see some "in person"...I hate to buy things unseen. Maybe, I'll see some of you there!

Evelyn, I also live near Mesquite. Where is the fair being held? I have not heard anything about it.

Hi Evelyn, We are not planning on attending the fair, but I can tell you, we use a Berkey and it is great. We purchased ours in 98', along with extra filters. Paul built a small wooden stand for it to sit on next to the sink. At one time we depended on well water but we now have city water. The chlorine is so strong in our water you can't drink it without filtering it first. What does it cost to get in and what are the hours? Just curious. Teresa

Many advertisements have been heard via both shortwave radio & c-band sattelite audio sub-carrier, I wish I could attend. I've been using a homespun yet convienant to use filter using water dispensers obtained from a w-mart that have a ball-valve that does'nt leak! Just drilled some holes so treated water drains into lower tank. I got replacement Berkfeld cartriges in both the 7" & 10". 7" = about 1/4 gal per hour with full surface area & just a touch of `head-pressure`, the 10" = about 1/3 gph. Makes nasty over-chlorinated muni water taste GOOD, makes good coffee also. I also have a reverse osmosis system that basicly makes disstilled water devoid of healthy minerals. It makes nice, clear ice-cubes - but the berkie water tastes better, + if need arrises - - it'll work w/o need-n line pressure...
