Kidding season is over

I have the flu! I am just barely able to do chores. I lambar one pen and sit in front of the fan in the barn. Lambar the boys and sit in front of the fan. I bottle my new doeling Queeny and sit in..................well you get it :) So last night I finished chores (bottles, Lambars, feeding, milking, cleaning) at about 11 pm, and Cookie who was due anytime, layed down to push her kids out. I was exhausted! I grabbed her, took her outside into the grass and told her she was not messing up my barn! She proceeded to kid with two really big doelings, no help from me........I was sitting watching in front of the fan :) She licked them off, all nice and fluffy (no barn towles to wash) she cleaned up the grass (no raking and shoveling) and about 1/2 hour later as they were starting to stand up, I grabbed them and walked slowly to the house to put them in the kid pen. Cookie was really mad at me this morning! :) Chocolate Chip (CC) named by my nephew before she was born, and Nilla Wafer are two of the biggest doelings we have ever had. These are also the only two doe kids, Cookie, who will be 9 on the 28th has EVER had..........so we went out with a bang! Vicki

Vicki, Congrats on the 2 does! We always get the flu in the dead of winter around here and then freeze to death for 2 weeks. It doesn't sound like its any more fun in the summertime either though. Try drinking a couple of teaspoons of vinegar in aglass of COLD water 2X a day and you will shake the flu faster. Can also rinse and gargle with it for a sore throat-but mix it stronger and don't swallow it. Hope you are better soon!!

Ugh! Not fun doing chores when you feel like just crawling in bed and covering your head! Hope you feel better soon! And congrats on the doelings! Jan

I know exactly how you feel, it sucks:). If you have what I had it will be bad for three days and then move to your chest. I sure hope you feel better soon! And it sure is a nice way to end the kidding season!

Thanks for the well wishes everyone! I am back to the land of the living, and like Doreen said it is all in my chest now. There is no way one person could have some much snot everywhere :)

Just got back from Shreevport LA, yesterday to bring home a milker. She was to have been yet another buck of mine two years ago when she was born. Out of Pruittville's Strawberry GCH 2*M out of two champs etc. and her sire was AI GCH +++*B Gasconade SS Marksman, she is a doe of course with a pedigree she should have tattooed on her side, alas she is a doe only a mother could love :) I really am wanting to breed her though and get some daughters out of her. Sure does go to show that you can stack up all the wonderful animals you want sometimes and back somewhere is a little gene hiding to mess up all the best laid plans and all! Need the milk right now, and she is a very sweet doe. Vicki
