Deputy investigated in machine gun incident Men with law enforcement ties suspected of involvement in Suncrest shooting

John Craig - Staff writer

A decorated Stevens County sheriff's deputy and three other men, including two police reservists, are under criminal investigation for allegedly shooting two Suncrest homes with a machine gun.

One of an estimated 50 bullets passed through two walls and a decorative indoor birdhouse before lodging in a stack of books five feet away from where 22-year-old Kristopher Granlund was sleeping at 2:26 a.m. Tuesday.

"It's pretty stupid. They could have hit my son," said Kristopher Granlund's father, David Granlund.

Granlund said another bullet passed through a fence and part of his deck, and a third round shattered a canopy window of David and Diana Brink's pickup before ricocheting into their garage door.

The officers suspected of involvement in the shooting were identified as Stevens County Deputy Will Clark, Stevens County Reserve Deputy Brian Cravens, and Chris Spurlock, who is a reserve officer for the Newport Police Department and a corrections officer at the Airway Heights Corrections Center.

Efforts to reach them for comment were unsuccessful.
