WOW! That was exciting! I had been up reading my email but had JUST got back in bed when the bed started moving around 6:50 am ;-o Soon the whole house was moving and all the glass jars were jangling together. It seemed to last a looooooong time. Anybody else feel that? It's causing quite the stir in Vermont.

I live in an underground house 12 miles north of Montpelier, Vermont. It's the second strongest earthquake I have ever felt. My daughter ran outside to make sure her house was OK. She just finished building it.

Yes, we felt it here in Rensselaer Co. NY (about 30 miles north of Albany). I was in the cellar putting in a load of laundry...thought the three kids all got up at the same time and were running upstairs. The cabinets shook also and things on top of the refrigerator were tinkling together. I found more infomation at wnyt.com (channel 13 here). Last earthquake here in NY was 1983.

I feel the earth move under my feet. Reports from NCPR indicate at least some minor road damage in the area. Glad to say we had no damage in Wevertown, N.Y. other than a stone wall in a local cemetery had a partial collapse.

I slept thru it here in NY, but my cousin in Pittsfield VT (near Killington) said it was unreal! She said the weird sound was worse than the shake, the neighbors all ran out of their houses thinking somebodys furnace or gas tank had exploded, then realised that their own houses and the ground were still shaking. Creepy.

I was outside at the chicken coop and didn't notice anything. Hubby was still in bed and noticed the windows rattling. He thought it might have been a quake - sure enough. Not like the one we had New Year's Eve 1999. What a way to welcome in the new millenium. We had just finished burning the outhouse as our way to celebrate, everyone settled in bed and WOW!! A fairly substantial quake too.

Yes, we sure felt it. I live in an underground home, complete with a sod roof & woke up to the roar of what sounded like a tornado but the shaking told us something different was going on. I have never experienced anything like it. Of course soon after, we found that the epicenter was about 13 miles NW of us just outside of AuSable Forks..just over the ridge from my grandsons. I live near the hamlet of Upper Jay. I have a huge heatsink/ chimney/fireplace structure in the middle of the house....5' sq. at the base and tapering up to 3' as it exits the roof and the outside chimney is 2' square...This heatsink is built on a 6' deep footing and even then, we got bits of loose concrete all over the floor, with the usual pictures& misc. moved around. The only real damage we found (we hope) was the the attached underground garage which was added after the main house and built with concrete blocks, has some hairline cracks along the seams. I saw where both Rt 9N and a backroad nearby it were caved in. In AuSable Forks, both old churches have substancial cracks that is preventing their use. One thing I see, is that Big Brother arrived in the area..you'd think there was a massive emergency..FEMA & Red Cross...wanting you to contact them so they can get their nose in your business...you'd be surprised how many people are out there willing to suck at the government tit and yet complain about their privacy.
