Today, April 19, we members of the Catholic Church family honor, in a special way, the following friends of God -- saints whose souls are now in heaven:

Bl. Bernard the Penitent (French, pilgrim, hermit, Benedictine monk, d. 1182)
Bl. Burchard of Bellevaus (French, Cistercian abbot, d. 1164)
Bl. Conrad de'Miliani (Italian, Franciscan missionary priest in Libya, cardinal, advisor to pope, d. 1289)
St. Crescentius of Florence (Italian, deacon, c. 396)
St. Elphege (English, nobleman, Benedictine abbot, archbishop, martyred [axed] by Danish pagans in 1012)
St. Emma (German, widow, miracle worker, patron of the poor, 11th century)
St. George of Antioch (Pisidian [Turkish], bishop, opposed Iconoclasts, d. 814)
St. Geroldus of Einsiedeln (German, Benedictine monk, hermit, d. 978)
Sts. Hermogenes, Gaius, Expeditus, Aristonicus, Rufus, and Galata (Armenian, martyred in 4th century)
Bl. James Duckett (English, seller of [illegal] Catholic books, martyred [hanged] by Elizabethans in 1602)
King St. Lazarus (from an Eastern land, pilgrim to Rome and Gaul, 10th century)
Pope St. Leo IX [baptized Bruno of Toul] (French, military officer, bishop, elected to papacy in 1049, reigned until death in 1054)
St. Paphnutius of Jerusalem (priest, early martyr in Palestine)
Sts. Socrates and Dionysius (Pamphylian [Turkish], martyred by stabbing in 275)
St. Timon (Israelite, one of first seven deacons [Acts 6], martyred by crucifixion in Greece in 1st century)
St. Ursmar of Lobbes (French, Benedictine abbot, bishop, missionary in Belgium, d. 713)
St. Vincent of Collioure (French, martyred c. 304)
St. Wernher of Oberwessel (Germany, house servant, glass-blower, martyred at age 14 on Holy Thursday in 1275)
