Are there any Canadian A.M.E. Churches?

Yes Mary, there are A.M.E. Churches in Canada. Although I am not sure of the locations, I believe most are in Ontario and are a part of the Fourth Episcopal District.

One which I have attended is Grant A.M.E. in Toronto. It is interesting to note that Grant A.M.E. is older than Canada itself, as a nation.

Our presence is starting to re-emerge in Canada. There is another church, I am not quite sure of the name, which will celebrate its ground breaking within the near future. This particular church is located in Windsor, right across from Detroit. There is another congregation being planted in the surburb or Toronto, and Rev. Gregory Wilson, the pastor of Grant has been granted the task of helping it. A City of Toronto's size affords the opportunity for more growth and congregations.

Lloyd O. Jenkins, Presiding Elder of the Canadian Conference

Churches: 1) Grant AME - Toronto Ontario 2) Tanner AME - Windsor Ontario 3) Highland AME Amherst Nova Scotia 4) Robinson AME - LaSalle Quebec 5) Central Grove AME - Harrow Ontario 6) Campbell AME - Chatham Ontario 7) Price Memorial AME - Windsor Ontario 8) Bethel AME - Mississauga Ontario

All in the 4th Episcopal District

Rev. George Alger Coates, Pastor of St. Peter's AME, Decatur, IL, is orginally from Canada and pastored in Amherst and (Tanner)Windsor before being sent to the Illinois Conference in 1970.

The newest church in the Canadian Conference is Philip R Cousin AME Church. This church was established in October of 2000 as a church plant out of Grant AME Church Toronto. We are located in Mississauga Ontario. Mississauga is a suburb of Toronto, and the fastest growing city in the country. As the pastor of this fine work, we are striving to take this city by storm for Christ and help our sister churches in the Canadian Conference to lead the way in the fabulous fourth district.
