Knowledge in Empirical Psychologygreenspun.com : LUSENET : History & Theory of Psychology : One Thread |
Could you please refer me to some starter references or readings which may help me in answering "What is the basis of knowledge in empirically orientated psychology'? Is there a focal theorist/researcher/philosopher which I should mention? Are there any illustrative quotes which I could use? Thank you Pete

There's a nice discussion in Michael Wertheimer's A Brief History of Psychology. Virtually any history of psychology textbook will cover the British Empiricists--whom you must definitely mention. Other textbooks with a philosophical emphasis will trace empiricism to Aristotle. I would also check the entry for empiricism in an encyclopedia or dictionary of psychology.
