Electric start lawn mowers

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Hi guys & gals!

Are any of you familiar with the newer lawn mowers that start with a push of a button? My mother has an Ariens, purchased in 1992 that has been nothing but a headache. (Won't start with the starter). A local repair guy said that the newer models have the kinks worked out of them. Not sure if he was telling the truth or if he was just sick of trying to fix her old one. (He wasn't the only service place she has had it taken to.) I'm sure she's probably spent twice as much maintaining it than she did to purchase it, and it wasn't cheap to begin with. She's willing to buy a new one, but I don't see much sense in that it they don't work any better!

Thanks for your input,

Amy

Had a Snapper push mower in the the late 70s with electric start. The recharable battery usually needs replaced after 4 or 5 years. Is that the type you have, with the rechargable battery(plugs into an house outlet to charge)? If so, that could be where the problem is. There's really no 'kinks' that need to be worked out, not much but a starter motor, battery and switch. All of them could be fixed or replaced cheaper than a new mower.

also, most of them can be retrofitted with a pull start.
