Pam, how old is the buckling and what kind of milk is he getting? Goat milk, cow's milk, replacer? Also do you know it isn't cocci? Although I've found the Sulfa Dimeth works very quickly, so if the little guy is still scouring, that likely isn't it. It could be E.Coli. With my first kid I bottledfed him whole cow's milk and he scoured and came down with E. Coli. The vet told me this bacteria is often at high levels in some commercial milk, not enough to harm human adults, but often will lead to infection in goat kids. This is often under reported in store milk. There is a difference of opinion on whether to cut back on milk or not. Hopefully, others will give their experience/insight.

Fiasco Farms dam raise their kids, so that is why you have the difference in information.

How did you mix up the Dimthox? We add it to 1 cup of water, keep well shaken and use 7cc per 100 pounds the first day, 1/2 that days 2,3,4, and 5. If you have mixed it per calf insturctions you are not giving enough of it.

Without a fecal sample taken to the vet, do the refridgerator method. Give the sulfa, worm him and also use the spectrum scour halt, pig pump, spectomycin, whatever it is called in your area, its red and in a pumper bottle, you give it twice a day for ecoli. Never take away the milk, they aren't cattle, he needs calories to grow. I can't believe he ate enough of any of the feed at 6 weeks to cause any problems, and unless he just started eating the alfalfa yesterday, it wouldn't cause diarrhea like that. We have always used Whole grocery store milk with no problems, you aren't giving it to him cold? In my area it would be cocci and worms. Vicki

Sorry, I didn't ask whether the little guy was wormed? Though I suspect if he's scouring badly all of a sudden and you could picture him going down, it sure sounds more like cocci to me. And six weeks would be right at the target age. Cocci can take a kid so quickly and they can be eating well right until the end. Please let us know how it comes out and are you getting him to the vet?

I didnt mix the dimethox I gave it straight,Orally. the 21/2 ccI gave in his milk.I didnt give it cold.I just got him aweek ago,he was treated at 3 weeks for cocci.CDT and I dont think he was wormed yet.I was given feed to switch him over and milk I had already switched him to half goat milk & half VitD milk.Friday PM I noticed he had runs. But I did notice he had some toothpaste poop mixed with the liquid poop too today.will go to vet in AM.Pam

Hi Pam, I hope you get back to answer. You gave the Dimethox straight, as in the powder straight from the bag? This is the second time this week somebody has said that they have done this, can you tell me where you got this information from? The other gal said it was just on an internet search, I have tried to search it but didn't come up with the same info. I even used Dogpile the same search engine she did. I would like to track down whoever is giving this information. Thanks for any help you can give me. Vicki

Vicky I feel so stupid,I have looked and looked.I found what I went by on Saanendoah.com Go to basic meds.then to where it says Albon &Dimethox then it says dose:It doesnt say anything about mixing with water.Except the powdwer form.If I calculated right their dose comes otu to 5cc to 25 pounds on day 1 then 21/2cc on 2,3,4,5,. Hoggers says to mix 1/2 cc in milk 2 times a day starting at 3 weeks.Pam

PS. Vicky it was the 12.5% dimethox.Pam

UPDATE: I took fecal to vet and it is cocci. He gave me SULFATRIM 480mg tablets to give him what ever it is it isnt responding to the dimethox.Pam

Pam, more confusing, Sulfatrim is just another Sulfa like albon (sulfamethazine) sulfaquinoxiline etc. :) After you use this to get rid of the cocci, wait 21 days and give him another dosage, but this time use the dimethox mixed with water, then dosed daily for 5 days. Or ditch it all and just buy the premixed sulfaquinoxiline from pipevet.com either the 20%, just ask them for a pint, 2cc per 50 pounds for 5 days, make it easy! Vicki

Pam, I have tried Resorb 4 oz.with 1 cc of Garamycin in it. Even when they will not eat and I have to tube them it works. It sure has been a life saver this year for me.If you are not familiar with Resorb it is a electrolyte and nutrient replacer. You can leave the animal on it for two days.I usually after the first day can gradually get them back on their formula(I am talking about bottle goats I am raising). You can get Resorb from KV Vet.It gives their bowels a rest.Only give garamycin once a day.Give resorb as much as they will take or as much formula as you were feeding. Good luck, Terry
