P150 projetion screen - 60" too big?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

I just got an email from a friend. He is going to buy a new screen for his P150 (I think he has the colorplan). He wanted to know if 60" projection size is possible with the light output of the P150. Will the slides be too dark? Anyone have any experience? Thanks.

how many feet is 60 inches? I project mine to roughly about 6.5 foot wide. Image in fine. Cheers K

12 inches in a foot. So 60 inches = 5 feet

Thanks, Karl!

6.5 feet? That must be awsome. I have the 50" but looking to upgrade now that I have a new room to project in. I wonder how high you could go?

Hi Anam I dont actually use a screen, as I have white walls which is more convenient! :) 6.5 foot is basically the size i get when I project from one side of my room to the other side. The brightness is good in total darkness, but if theres a little light in the room, then the image does look dull. What annoys me though is the stupid slides popping under the heat of the projector!

I have the p600, so I probably could go up to 9" in a 30"x20 room

This is a very small room. (Name the film)

ROTFLOL!

Don't know, but just realized I must be a moluse of a man! It must be the fumes from the painters in the courtyard

Anam

60" should be fine. Any self respecting 150 watt projector will enlarge up to that size.

I use a 300W Ektagraphic to enlarge to six feet (72"). I use a 300W high-output bulb when going to eight feet. I use a plain matte white screen. I get a brilliant picture this way. A 150 watt bulb with the same lens aperture and condenser on a five foot screen will give 72% of the light I am getting at six feet and 300W. That is not bad, and should suffice except for the denser transparencies. A higher reflectivity screen (since your friend will be buying anyway) such as an aluminized screen would make up this difference, assuming that the narrower effective viewing angle could be tolerated.
