Any a/c techs here? Can you do this?

My old a/c quit. My neighbor gave us one to replace it. IF I could put the replacement a/c on its side it would fit nicely. Can You Do That, and the A/C/ still work? When did the a/c makers stop making vertical a/c units? Oh well my age is showing. :o)

they still make them,, just have to find them. You "MAY" be able to turn it on its side,, may not,, depends on how its built,,Ive done it before,, some worked some didnt. DOnt run it for 2 days or so,, then fit it in place and try,, it may work,, may not,, or may freeze up,, for the later 2,, take it out,, set it up,, but dont run it for 2 days again.

I'll ask my husband when he comes home, he's a hvac tech manager. I think I said that right. Otherwise, you might ask Hoot

Are we talking about an outdoor unit, if so, no you cannot put it on its' side. The oil would run out of the compressor.

About 15-20 years ago.

OK, I'll have to ask again. He was watching the Pacer's last night, so I couldn't get his attention very often. Anyway, they lost, but it was one great game-according to Him and his brother:)
