Can you freeze tomato paste?greenspun.com : LUSENET : Cooking & Crafts : One Thread
Several times I have needed to open a small can of tomato paste to use a couple of tablespoons of it in a recipe. I have wondered what to do with the leftover? I have those 1/2 pint canning jars and wanted to know if I were to put it in one of those and then freeze until I needed a small amount again? Would it thaw out and be watery?What would anyone suggest?

Give it a try and let the rest of us know what happens!! Many things do tend to go watery but this may fool us and be just right.

I'm not exactly a gourmet cook, you understand, but I've been doing this for years. Tomato sauce too. I just thaw it and mix it and throw it in. Have never noticed a difference, but it could be just me. I dry my leftovers too, but not tomato paste as it seems too bitter.

I have read to freeze it in ice-cube trays, then pop them out and store in zip-lock bags. Then when you need a little, just add a cube or two... This works with anything that you might need little amounts of...

an extra sauce I dont use, gets froze, usually in small quantities, then I just add it to more sauce,, seems watery at first, but mixes back easily

I always freeze leftover tomato paste in zip-loc freezer bags. Squeeze out all the air and freeze and it comes out fine. I can my own tomato paste and after all the work of cooking it down I am not about to let any go to waste after I open a little jar of it! Mona Lea in Southeast Missouri

I freeze mine in tablespoon measurments, then wrap in wax paper- put in a freezer bag and stick themin the freezer. It always seems to incorporate well into whatever I add it too.
