Rain, rain go away...

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Country Families : One Thread

It is raining AGAIN... I am pretty tired of rain, we have not had two days in a row without rain for a good while. I wish I could send some to all of those who need it.

I have Brady home today, he has a cold, and is pretty miserable blowing his nose constantly. He was ready to go to school, but then he was sneezing and coughing and I told him to just stay home and hang out with me. So he is building with blocks now. First he decided he wanted some scrambled eggs and toast, and he made them completely by himself. I was watching over him of course. He did a great job cooking them!!!

Last night we had his cake, and ice cream. He liked his dinner and enjoyed his little party. the girls blew up lots of balloons and made a sign on poster board. They each gave him a little gift which included a big blow-up alligator for the pool, a football, an alarm clock for his room, and I got him some stencils of dinosaurs, and some little trucks with a bridge to cross over (he loves to set up little towns and roads) new shoes, and some pencils and tape for his desk. So he had a nice time...

Well I had better get busy, have some laundry to do, and some morel mushrooms to clean!!

Happy Birthday Brady! Hope the little guy gets to feeling better (as we say down south).

Are these foraged-for mushrooms. How do you know how to find them? I guess the rain must help in that department! Do you worry about poisonous mushrooms?

Mellissa please send the rain here!! We are under burn bans and looks like Sat. or Sun. is the nearest day expected to rain with a 20% chance. Everything is so dry! Should be greatful since the mobile home is being put and everything that goes along but plants are in dire need of rain.

Yes the morels are foraged. We find them in the woods in several different "secret" locations!!! You never tell ANYONE where you find them!! They are very distinctive looking, so there is no chance of mixing them up with any other kind. They are great tasting, no comparison to those little white things from the stores. They do well when it is rainy, but it must be warm too...Seems they are a little late this year, but we got some big ones.

We got another 1 1/2 inches of rain since about midnight. More predicted.

I am tired of the rain too,we got 5 inches yesterday alone. It has been raining every day(almost)for 2 weeks and supposed to do this until June.the farmers are fretting and so are the gardeners.Willa in IL.

We are drowning here too! I want to garden!!! Wah! call 1-800- crybaby!

-- Barb in Ky. (bjconthefarm@yahoo.com), May 07, 2002.

And from Soggy Bottom Indiana, "Blub". We are drowning! Spring field work is 'way behind. Gardens aren't planted. And it just keeps raining. We're making plans for an Ark. :o)

Even the morel mushroom harvest has been bad because of the rain. Grass and other plants have grown very fast in the woods, leaving the 'shrooms nearly "unfindable" under the growth. We figure mushroom season is over and we aren't full yet.

Y'all have a sunny day.

I'll trade anyone who wants to trade away their rain for the foot of snow that southern Alberta got yesterday.

Any takers????

For once, we are not having too much rain, but it is cold. Nights are getting down to 34 degrees now for 2 weeks. The sunshine is biting cold.

I spent this week crying with one kid and coughing with another. The little kid and I go to the doctor today. After 2 weeks of being sick, it ain't a virus anymore.

We got a rain last night ---& strong wind-----could use more rain here yet!!!!!!!!!!

I had a tour bus this morning / they were from all over the USA----- it was interesting talking to them about what weather is like where they live---etc/etc/etc/----

They were on a ghost town tour of Kansas----I hate to say it /but our small town was listed as a "ghost town"------ha!

They all seemed to have a good time while they were here---I get on the tour buses & tell them about our town history & our 1800's stone Mill-----& joke around with them-----

I was elected the "MOST ENTHUSIASTIC TOUR GUIDE" !!!! Ha!--And the most fun they had ever had in any ghost town!!! ha!! So I think they had a good time while they were here!!!

It looked like it could rain at any minute---but the tour had a dry visit!!!

It is such fun meeting people from all over the USA---& shareing our area with them-----sonda

We still officially have a drought here, but yesterday was the first time we had 3 days in a row without rain or snow in 2 months. Our garden is sod, but Eric tilled up about 50 square feet so that I could plant a few more things, since we filled the small plot I used last fall right after we moved. It rained last night, so we didn't get anything planted, but fava beans, peas, onions and chives are going in as soon as things are dry enough. It is driving me nuts - I want to dig in the dirt so bad I can taste it!

Too dry to garden here. Seems like half the state is on fire. My folks down in Texas are about to dry up and blow away, too. It's gardening season there. They should be getting lots of rain--not a drop since the first of April!

-- mary (marylgarcia@aol.com), May 07, 2002.

We are in terrible need of rain, We cut the fields, as they were becomeing a fire hazard. So no hay unless something changes. Cattle men will be in deep trouble. Even there grazing fields are bare. The drought is going to hurt us really bad,

-- Irene texas (tkorsborn@cs.com), May 07, 2002.

I am so sorry for your droughts, how I truly wish I could send it to you all!!

-- Melissa in SE Ohio (me@home.net), May 07, 2002.

I drove to Indianapolis and heard flash flood warnings for some counties around there. Everything I saw was terribly saturated. I had thought it was wet here in the north but it was worse there by far.

-- Gary in Indiana (gk6854@aol.com), May 07, 2002.

Yesterday in Indy we got 2.10 inches of rain and another inch this morning. Anyone out there needing rain is more than welcome to have mine. Walking in to the kids school this morning it was above their ankles.

-- Melinda (speciallady104@hotmail.com`), May 08, 2002.

Two more inches here today, more tomorrow, flood warnings. More rain Sunday.
