Buy the cheapest automatic dishwashing detergent and add some white vinegar to it. Your dishes will sparkle without spending a lot of bucks!

What if you use powdered soap? How would you add the vinegar then?

You could mix it together to make a paste. Or I think if yours has a separate dispenser for a rinse agent, you could put the vinegar there, but I don't know if it would run out.

I usually just mix my dishwasher half and half with baking soda, and that works pretty well.

You add the regular granular dish detergent as normal. When it starts to wash open it up and add the vinegar to the water and just run as normal.
