I need to have some trees converted to lumber (Eastern WA)

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

It seems that a few months ago there were several ads in the paper for guys with mills that would come to your site and convert your timer into lumber. Now I can't find a single one!

Anybody know of a service like this in my area? (about a half hour north of spokane)

Any ideas on how much this sort of service costs?

Here in upstate NY we pay 15 to 17 cents a board foot so if you need 1000 bd ft it'll cost you $170.

Paul, have you consider calling Weyerhauser Company and Georgia Pacific? They may have some tips for you. Wouldn't hurt to give your local County Extension Service a ringie dingie too. Are there sawmills in your area? Call them. Just some thoughts. LQ

I stopped by a place a month ago where a guy was slabbing out boards with a portable band saw mill and he told me he charged 20 cents a board foot, I think that is pretty cheap. Thiry years ago I had a friend who had an Amreican saw mill and charged 10 cents per BF. there is not as much waste with the bandsaws.

Paul - Do you ever pick up the "Exchange" want ads? There is usually someone advertising though it. I'll pick up one today and see if anything catches my eye. I'll email you if I find one.

Yup, the exchange is what I'm talking about. Used to be at least a couple of ads. Now there's zip.
