Today, May 9, we members of the Catholic Church family honor, in a special way, the following friends of God -- saints whose souls are now in heaven:

St. Beatus of Beatenberg (Swiss, hermit)
St. Brynoth of Scara (Sweden, bishop for 38 years, d. 1317)
St. Gerontius of Cervia (Italian, bishop, martyred c. 501)
St. Gofor of Llanover (Welsh)
St. Gregory of Ostia (Italian, Benedictine monk, cardinal bishop, papal legate, died in Spain c. 1044)
St. Hermas (Roman, bishop in Greece, mentioned by St. Paul [Romans 16], martyred in 1st century)
St. John of Chalon (French, bishop, c. 475)
Bl. Nicholas Albergati (Italian, Carthusian monk, cardinal archbishop, d. 1443)
St. Pachomius of Tabenna (Egyptian, soldier, desert hermit, abbot, wrote earliest known communal rule for monks [at least 3,000 in nine monasteries], had true gift of tongues, opposed Arian heresy, c. 348)
St. Sanctan of Kill-da-Les (British, bishop in Ireland, 6th century)
Bl. Theresa of Jesus Gerhardinger [baptized Caroline] (German, founded School Sisters of Notre Dame, d. 1879 [beatified 1985])
Bl. Thomas Pickering (English, Benedictine brother, martyred by hanging in 1679)
St. Tudy of Landevennec (French, hermit, missionary, 5th or 6th century)
St. Vincent of Montes (Spanish, Benedictine abbot, bishop, c. 950)
