Keep your differant sewing machine needles easy to identify and easy to put back in the right case.
Use different colors of fingernail polish on different sizes of sewing machine needles. Paint across the top of them while in the case. That marks both the case and the needle with the same color so you know where to return it if you only use it for a short time.
