Welcome to the new forum, Stan.

I guess if there are trademark or copyright violations, then the Belangers will have to contact me on that issue and we'll go from there. If not then we'll be going with Countryside II.

But thanks for the warning.

-- Caretaker (none@this.time2), May 12, 2002.

I am just courious, why no "real" email address?

-- Karen (mountains_mama2@hotmail.com), May 12, 2002.

I looked into this a while back. There is no way possible you could be infringing on any copyright or trademark violations by using the term "Countryside" Don't worry about it.

Is this where everyone is going to go from now on? Maybe we should delete the others just to save confusion.

Hopefully this place will truly be a 'free-discussion' message board.

Karen, what difference does it make? Did you just stop by here to stir up trouble? Why not just let things be now that everyone has got what they wanted?

-- Dave (multiplierx9@hotmail.com), May 13, 2002.

Karen,

I haven't gotten around to creating an account throught hotmail or yahoo - I have a full-time job off my homestead as well as taking care of my homestead, too...

But I have to agree with Dave - why does it matter?

-- Caretaker (none@this.time2), May 13, 2002.

Dave,

Thanks for the information on trademark/copyright violations.

As for this site being a "free-discussion" message board, I have neither the time nor the inclination to do much moderating of this forum. So (for good or bad) it will probably be much like a usenet newsgroup.

-- Caretaker (none@this.time2), May 13, 2002.

Gesh, just said I was courious! Sounds to me like "you" guys are looking for trouble! Give it a rest already!

-- Karen (mountains_mama2@hotmail.com), May 13, 2002.

Sorry, I don't buy that.

-- Dave (multiplierx9@hotmail.com), May 14, 2002.

Look, I have no beef with you guys. I didn't come here to cause trouble. I made one post and you all get all nasty. Haven't we had enough nasty going on lately. I was only courious about no email address because I wanted to be sure this was not going to be a site to slam the old countryside, but rather a nice place as an extension of the old one. Thanks for the warm welcome and for being so kind..I can tell this IS going to be a nasty site. I did not believe my post was insulting nor trouble making. I was only wondering...period! No alternative motives.

You know guys, I have a lot of info to contribute. Because I moderate a forum there and do think a lot of the folks there, I am loyal to the other forums; however, it doesn't mean I can't post anywhere I choose and on any site that I feel I can be helpful and also gain information. It is not a "us against them" deal for me. I don't cause trouble there and I had no intentions of causing trouble here. So if you don't want me here, I will go back. I only came to see what I could contribute here and what type of forum it is doing to be. Sorry I bothered you all!

-- Karen (mountains_mama2@hotmail.com), May 14, 2002.

Sorry if I got that impression but it seemed pretty clear nobody has an interest in 'slamming the old countryside', whatever that's supposed to mean. In fact I take that as an insult. I have much better things to do with my time than get caught up in some immature message board drama. It's only a message board!

Again, what difference would it make it the originator used a real email address or not? Why didn't you just start contributing instead of immediately challenging the legitimacy of this forum?

Nobody said you weren't wanted here. I haven't seen anything 'nasty' here other than a bunch of posts slamming Stan that someone felt necessary to fill this forum with yesterday. It's fine with me if someone has a problem with Stan but they don't need to screw this forum up because of it. I think it's ok to say what they want, as long as they follow the rule that Caretaker posted, but multiple spamming is annoying. One post would have been enough.

Is everything that you don't agree with or things that don't follow along with your views always referred to as 'nasty' in your mind? It starts to look like an alterior motive when you start taking issue with people just because they don't follow lock-step with your feelings or beliefs.

I think it is an 'us against them' issue in some ways for some people involved. There's people on one side like yourself who'd have no qualm at all censoring people and in general, your reasons aren't valid. If what someone says doesn't fit into your own personal concept of 'nice', then you advocate deleting or banning them. That's not how the real-world works. As someone else said, it's prefered to make our own choices what we'd read or not read. On the other side, there's people like myself who just want a simple forum without heavy handed moderation, censorship and instilled belief systems to follow. I don't need a net-nanny or babysitter to read forums. I'm very capable of choosing what I read or not read. I'm enough of a well-balanced adult that I don't take a internet message board to heart. I'd much rather hear all views rather than have a homogenized version that's been edited according to a few peoples personal outlook on life.

I guess my suggestion would be to refer back to the orignal post in this thread. It pretty much covers it all.

-- Dave (multiplierx9@hotmail.com), May 14, 2002.

Karen,

Might I suggest that you develop a bit of a thicker skin? Especially if you are going to frequent Internet forums.

Nothing in my reply was "nasty" to you.

It seems like you have an awfully big chip on your shoulder... Hmmm?

-- Caretaker (none@this.time2), May 14, 2002.

Ok, let me try again. You are misunderstanding what I am saying. I if probably my fault, I apparently am just not expressing myself well. I didn't know who the moderator of the forum was and if it was a litgitmate forum. Have you seen all the others popping up??? I just didn't know what to think. I tend to be very organized and do things in a 1-2-3 fashion (not always a good thing!) and I personally would have set up an email account, then the forum, etc. Not saying you are wrong not to...I just thought it odd in view of the others going on. My way is not the "right" way, just what I had in my mind someone would do. I apologize.

I did take offense when being accused of being a trouble maker. If you knew me, you would know why because I work very very hard at not ruffling feathers and always seem to want to be the peacemaker. Right or wrong, that is just how my nature is. I don't mind controversey..it is sometimes a good thing..and love a good debate and I am one of the most open minded people you will find-- well, for a conservative..LOL! But then I guess I acused you right back, and that was wrong of me.

Just so you understand, although I don't object to a certain amount of censorship, I don't have any problems with someone choosing not to have censorship on thier site. I feel that whoever is in charge has thier set of rules and I respect whatever they choose to do. If I don't like it, I won't go there.

I think that perhaps I misjudged you all but you all have also misjudged me.

-- Karen (mountains_mama2@hotmail.com), May 14, 2002.

Karen,

I apologize, too. How about we start over?

Welcome to the forum.

-- Caretaker (none@this.time2), May 14, 2002.

One last thing I had meant to mention. Although some may be a "us against them", I am not one of those. I support Chuck and his ideals because I understand where he is coming from. I understand others who don't agree with him because I can see thier point also. Who is right or wrong just depends on where you perspective is. I think we would all get along fine if we could see each other perspectives.

I will say the only problem I have is with how Stan has attacked the forums. I simply think it is childish and he is the only one I have taken issue with. I would have no problem with Stan returning to being a human being and offering the help he has in the past. He is a very smart man and has a wealth of information to share. I just wish he would share that rather than creating havoc and I personally would welcome him back if he would just contribute as a Stan rather than Satan/Welp with all the nonsense.

I have a mind of my own, I don't consider reading or contributing helpful homesteading information back and forth "fratinizing with the enemy". It is only a forum...not life and death. I just can't see why anyone would think it wrong to be respectful to each other? You don't have to mince words, you don't have walk on eggshells, you don't have to agree..but why is it wrong to at least "attempt" to put things in a kind manner? How could that be offensive? I don't put this for a response, only for some thought.

-- Karen (mountains_mama2@hotmail.com), May 14, 2002.

Caretaker, we crossed on the postings..LOL! As far as I am concerned, we have started over. Not to worry! Thanks! I will be sure and visit!

-- Karen (mountains_mama2@hotmail.com), May 14, 2002.

ok, now that's straightened out, let's get on with things. I noticed some people bringing up the fact their older computers don't deal with homesteadingtoday.com or other reasons they'd prefer Lusenet so hopefully they'll feel welcome here.

I noticed we had a spammer visit here. They made a mess out of the main topic board. Hope that doesn't scare anyone away. The other forums that popped up will disappear soon enough with no usage.

-- Dave (multiplierx9@hotmail.com), May 14, 2002.

I hold all rights to the name "countryside", since I have lived in the countryside longer than anyone else, especially countryside magazine.

You hereby have my written permission to use the term "countryside" for you forum.

Problem solved?

Am I welcome here? Frankly, I miss having a chance at a little lively repartee with Stan.
