in health psychology, is a holistic model of the individual (biol, psych and spiritual) appropriate in relation to health issues?

There is an extensive literature relating to this. For example, a whole "biopsychosocial" tradition that also includes spirituality. Look at the literature on stress, coping, and spirituality/religion, especially the recent work of Ken Pargament, who has reviewed the literature. Only you can decide, based on reviewing the literatature yourself, whether such a model is appropriate. In the end I think most of us search for a psychological model that is consistent with our larger world views and the views of the people we serve.
