Scratch on B&W film

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Large format photography : One Thread

I know this has been addressed before, but I can't find it in the archives. When attempting to deal with a scratch on a negative do you rub grease on the emulsion side or the other ?

Thanks Paul

Paul,

I've always used "skin oil" on the emulsion side to diffuse the scratch. You'll find plenty around your nose. It does work.

Put it on whichever side the scratch is on- hopefully not the emulsion side though because that means some of the image is lost.
