Raised beds and t posts

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Country Style Homesteading : One Thread

When setting up my SFG raised beds, I have started using t posts driven into the ground at the four corners. This helps keep the frame squared and the boards from seperating at the nail points. The posts can also be used for vertical racks on the ends and as mounts for early season frost covers or sun shades in later season.

Last summer I used short T-posts to anchor the corners of a fence I put around a small herb/flower bed when the chickens kept scratching out my plants. I never like the way those t-posts looked! This spring I took 2 x 2's, made the ends "pointy" and drove them into the ground. Just looks "earthier". Cheaper too.

Granny,

Cheaper? Not around here. 8 ft 2x2s run a minimum of $2.90 and 6 ft t posts are $1.20 each.
